I am a photographer who has lived in the south west all of my life and I have a broad interest in the arts. The visual arts have been an intrinsic part of my life. I have been surrounded by a highly successful artistic environment from my earliest years and I have a preference for fine art prints, portraiture and nature photography. I have also played classical guitar for many years and am about to start to do small performances for the public.
I was born at Freedom Fields Hospital in 1968. My parents were Robert Lenkiewicz of polish decent and Monica Shannon who came from Liverpool with a Irish catholic ancestry. |
I went to a number of schools in Plymouth but at 13 my father taught me from home where I learnt about art history, philosophy and music. This was during a time when my parents generation were questioning the role of education in society, alternative schools were popular such as Summer Hill. Later I went to Plymouth University and studied Biology.
After University I traveled around Europe going to Amsterdam, Italy, Greece, Spain and North Africa. I found Amsterdam to be a city full of creativity and color, a place I hope to live in one day. It has the best collection of paintings by Rembrandt and Van Gogh two of my favorite painters. Both Italy and Greece taught me about the ancient world i.e. the Greek and Roman Empires and the renaissance. But it was traveling through Spain which I enjoyed the most going to Malaga, Granada and Tangiers. This was particularly special for me because of my love for the Spanish guitar and I was able to pay homage to the Alhambra a Moorish Palace in Granada which inspired Recuerdos de la Alhambra one of the most important pieces in the classical guitar repertoire.
However since then I have been working at photography as well as music.
I feel photography is the art of discovery through observation. It is more about finding something in the everyday and less about what you see and more about the way you see things.
I am currently exhibiting twenty or so photographs at The Jardins De Bagettell, a coffee house in Old Town Street, Plymouth, City Centre. This runs through out May. This seems to be going well and has had some press interest . Both the Herald and Devon Life have interviewed me. I also have a photography studio which sells my work and undertakes commissioned work such as:
- Private Portraiture
- Families
- Couples
- Weddings
- Birthdays
- Advertising and Business Work
